Ke Ali`i Hulu Mamo - by Helen Beamer

Ko`i`i ka lehua i ke anu
Kipu`upu`u a`o Waimea

Hanohano ia hale o ka manu
Hulu `e`e a`o Mealani

A he manu i kûlia i ka nu`u
Ka `O`o hae a ke kia manu

Welo lua e ka hulu nani i ka la`i
I ke ani mâlie a ka Moa`e

Ho`oipo i ke oho o ka lehua
`A`ohe lua ke `ike aku

Puana ke ali`i hulu mamo
Kalanipo`o `oe e ô mai

Refreshed is the lehua in the chill
Kipu`upu`u wind of Waimea

Glorious, this home of the bird
Underwing feathers for the Royal One

As a bird strives to reach the summit
So the `O`o is prized by the hunter

Feathers shimmer as sun gold on a calm sea
Equally beautiful in the gently blowing tradewinds

To love amidst the delicate soft brush of lehua
Nothing equal is known

Proclaim the mamo-feather chief
You are Kalanipo`o, answer
