Mele Lanai - Words & music by Val Kepilino

He mele keia aina o Lana`i
Ka huina li`ili`i ona moku puni
Li`ili`i ka mana`o me ka olelo
Mea nui ona moku `âina

Kona pua ono i ke kaunaoa
Ua oi kona u`i mua ka lehua
Ka wai ho`oluu like meke kula
Pili me kukuna o ka la

Ka mea nui o keia ai Lana`i
Ka halakahiki ho`owaewae
E ho`o kaulana `oe kou inoa
Imi ola no ka lehulehu

Ha`ina ia mai ana kapuana
Pumehana kou inoa a`o Lana`i
Li`i li`i `oe kealoha nui
He mana`o po`ina ole

Here is my song of Lana`i
One of the little islands of Hawai`i
Though it be little in words and thoughts
It is the most important of all

Her own flower is the kaunaoa
She has her own beauty as the lehua of Hawai`i
The dye of her color is like gold
Almost a duplicate of the rays of the sun

The largest recognition of this land
Is the pineapple that brings her wealth
Her name is known everywhere
It brings prosperity to the population

Now ends my mele of Lana`i
Your name is warm to me
And though you are small and little
You'll never be forgotten
