| Source: Tony C. - Mana’o: Composed in 1986, in Kona, while driving with musician friends throughout the moku (district) of Kona, the composer’s origins, namely Hölualoa. Singing songs about the area inspired this first mele the composer wrote for his ‘äina hänau (birthplace). The bird in the 3rd verse refers to Jeffrey Rasmussen, who was singing along with Peter Ahia, a mele named “Hosana” or otherwise known as “Ua Mau” a hïmeni from Ni‘ihau. The 4th verse reference to the rose blossom was directed to Vicki I’i Rodrigues whose students we assisted in the Kona Keiki Hula Competition.
